If anyone had a right to call themselves the Tin Pan Alley of modern pop music, it is probably Jason Derulo. ![]() Everything Is Four produced huge hits, and featured the kind of eclectic – and electric – list of collaborators that makes you realise everyone in the world wants a little slice of whatever musical alchemy Jason Derulo knows how to make: how else do you explain Meghan Trainor, Stevie Wonder, Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez all appearing on the same album? You probably don’t think you’ve ever heard this album but, I assure you, put it on: you have heard every. In 2015, Jason Derulo released his fourth album – Everything Is Four – which felt like the apex of his particular brand of pop music: made with passion and his careful editorial eye, and ultimately loaded with whatever chemical makes your body crave guilty pleasures. ![]() ![]() If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably not thought a great deal about Jason Derulo for about five years (unless, of course, you went to go see Cats: more on that later). And I love that about it, and it’s a very even playing field. ![]()
